This Is How: ‘The Ritual’ by Hugo Barreleiro
We’re thrilled to have the fab Portugal-based TiR member Hugo Barreleiro on the site today, telling us all about this awesome partying capture of his. Really interesting insights about not missing moments, shooting no matter what the lighting, but also about the difference good lighting can make – with lots of supporting images too. A great read!
This Is How: ‘Raining Confetti’ by Lyndsey Goddard
In the forty-second of our regular series of ‘This Is How…’, the fab Lyndsey Goddard shares her thoughts on how she got this recent Reportage Award. It was incredibly difficult to get an award, with just the top 2% of submissions becoming Reportage Awards in Collection One (Collection Two has a few days left until the deadline, so don’t forget to submit your favourite documentary captures and Stories soon).
This Is How: ‘Dad’s First Look’ by Kristian Leven
For our forty-first ‘This is How…’ piece, it’s a real treat to have the fab Kristian Leven on the site today, taking us behind the scenes of this fantastic capture. Kristian was one of our Collection One judges, and has long been a personal favourite photographer of mine, so it’s great to have him sharing his thoughts today. We’re also proud to be sponsoring his upcoming inaugural workshop in London, UK: ‘From Photographer to Storyteller’. Kristian shares some invaluable tips here on pre-visualisation, originality and creativity, technical advice, and more – he also shares his contact sheet from this series, as well as some supporting images; a brilliant read!
This Is How: ‘A Sister’s Love’ by Soven Amatya
It’s an honour today to have the fantastic Soven Amatya on the site, taking us behind the scenes of his recent Reportage Award. Just the top 2% of submissions were awarded by our Collection One Judges, and Soven managed to bag two of them – an incredible achievement. In what is the 40th of our ‘This is How…’ posts, Soven shares great insights into capturing feelings and relationships, a breakdown of his flash setup, focusing on connections between people, and more…
This is Storytelling: ‘Targeted Chaos’ by Andrew Keher
Only the top 4% of submissions became Reportage Story Awards in Collection One, and we’re thrilled to have one of the winners – the brilliant Andrew Keher – take us behind the scenes of his award. Reportage Story Awards are given to the very best series of images (between 15 – 20) from a single wedding, and represent the pinnacle of storytelling and consistently excellent coverage. Andrew’s insights are invaluable here, including great tips on getting really close with a 24mm, finding his own style, embracing the ‘targeted chaos’ of weddings, overcoming the challenges of low light, and much more…thanks, Andrew!
