Types of Image

In this section, the term ‘This Is Reportage’ or ‘us’ or ‘we’ refers to the owner of the website. The term ‘you’ refers to the photographer subscribing to our service.

As we are all about documentary wedding photography, any image(s) you upload must have been taken naturally, without any posing or guidance from you. By uploading images, you are specifically agreeing that:

  • You did not pose the scene, or control the action in any way.
  • You did not ask people to repeat something in order to obtain the image, or ask them to be still/motionless etc.
  • That the image was not taken during a ‘portrait’, ‘first look’ or ‘couple time’ session (even if you don’t pose, or the moment itself is natural, the fact that it has been taken during a specific ‘portrait’, ‘first look’ or ‘couple time’ session means the images are ineligble for This Is Reportage; there are plenty of other websites for portrait/’couple time’ imagery).
  • You took the image. This means no images from second shooters are allowed, even within Stories. The exception to this is if you have joined as a duo/Studio – in this case, you are both ‘primary shooters’ anyway.
  • If you are joining as a duo or studio, you can only submit work from a maximum of two different photographers – and these two photographers must be the same for the duration of your membership. If you have more than two photographers in your studio, and want to submit work from them all, you’ll have to have individual accounts for each photographer instead.
  • No images from engagement shoots or styled shoots are allowed.
  • It is a single-exposure (double exposures, whether in-camera, or post, are ineligible)
  • There are no watermarks on your images.
  • When submitting to our Awards, the submitted image(s) must be of a substantially different ‘moment’ to any of your own previously-awarded images. For instance, this means you can’t submit a black-and-white version of an already-awarded colour shot (and vice-versa); you can’t submit a cropped version of an already-awarded image; you can’t submit the tenth frame of a confetti-throw burst if you’ve already won with a previous frame from the same confetti throw, for example. If these duplicates are detected, your Awards will be removed, and we retain the right to disqualify any photographer permanently should they be found to be doing this repeatedly.

Images submitted to our contests can be taken from any time – they do not have to have been taken within the current year; they can be from any year.

Copyright and Image Usage

In this section, the term ‘This Is Reportage’ or ‘us’ or ‘we’ refers to the owner of the website. The term ‘you’ refers to the photographer subscribing to our service.

  • You must own the copyright – and be the sole owner of this copyright – to every image uploaded to the site, and by uploading, you are accepting you do so (with the exception of profile photos of yourself which may have been taken by others; in this case you must have permission to use them; by uploading, you are accepting that you have obtained the required permission).
  • You must also have the right – as stated in your own photography contract with your clients – to upload/display your images on third-party websites such as This is Reportage (including entering them into the awards).
  • Copyright at all times remains with you; never with us.
  • By uploading any image to the website, you agree that we can use your image(s) for promotional uses, on this website, our social media profiles, and third party websites. For first-party use, images will always be credited if possible, with links to either your This Is Reportage profile, or your website, or both. For third-party use (such as other blogs/websites talking about This Is Reportage), we will always insist on your images being credited, but, by agreeing to these terms, you accept this is outside of our total control, and so may not always be possible.

Transparent Award Judging Process

It’s vital that both types of our awards (Reportage Awards for single images, and Reportage Story Awards for series of images from a single wedding) are as fair as possible; with no extraneous factors determining each winner, other than each image’s strength. It’s also just as important that you know exactly how the judging process works, so here’s all the details:

  • Every single image and story entered into the contests will be assessed by the judges.
  • Images are judged totally anonymously, so the judges don’t know who has taken each image.
  • When the majority of our judges deem an image or story to be award-worthy, only then do they become Awards.
  • There will always be at least 3 judges for each competition, though we aim for 5 judges, as in our first upcoming contest.
  • A judge can not see if another judge has voted for an image or not, so can’t be swayed that way.
  • Each competition will have different judges, ensuring it is not always the same opinions/tastes giving awards.
  • The owner of the site will never be a judge, except in exceptional circumstances (such as a judge becoming sick, or unable to do their judging for some reason, and there is no time left to seek another judge).

Image Manipulation

In this section, the term ‘This Is Reportage’ or ‘us’ or ‘we’ refers to the owner of the website. The term ‘you’ refers to the photographer subscribing to our service.

You are, of course, free to edit your images as you see fit, with the following exceptions:

  • Cloning out parts of the image is not allowed.
  • Likewise, cloning in/adding in, or ‘moving’ parts of the image, is also not allowed.
  • AI image-manipulation is not allowed.

For Reportage and/or Story Awards, we may ask to see RAWs as proof of this; we remain the right to remove awarded images if any of the above image manipulation rules have been broken.
