Composition
Composition is easily one of the most important aspects of an image – and can quite often be the difference between a good capture, and a fantastic one. Therefore, it’s only apt that we have lots of ‘This is How’ pieces by our TiR wedding photographers that specifically contain wedding photography composition tips:
This is Storytelling: ‘Targeted Chaos’ by Andrew Keher
Only the top 4% of submissions became Reportage Story Awards in Collection One, and we’re thrilled to have one of the winners – the brilliant Andrew Keher – take us behind the scenes of his award. Reportage Story Awards are given to the very best series of images (between 15 – 20) from a single wedding, and represent the pinnacle of storytelling and consistently excellent coverage. Andrew’s insights are invaluable here, including great tips on getting really close with a 24mm, finding his own style, embracing the ‘targeted chaos’ of weddings, overcoming the challenges of low light, and much more…thanks, Andrew!
This Is How: ‘Dancing in the Dark’ by Rik Pennington
The fabulous Rik Pennington is on the TiR blog today, for the thirty-sixth in our series of ‘This is How…’ posts; it’s an honour to have Rik take us behind the scenes of his recent Reportage Award (which was incredibly tough to achieve; just the top 2% of submissions were awarded by our Collection One judges). Rik shares great insights into making the very most of the light you have available to you, capturing movement, his personal compositional style, patience, and more…
This Is How: ‘London Calling’ by Hannah Hall of Red on Blonde Photography
Today we’re honoured to have the fantastic Hannah Hall from Red on Blonde Photography on the site, telling us all about her recent Reportage Award. It was incredibly tough to get an award, with only the top 2% of submissions being awarded by our Collection One Judges, so we’re thrilled that Hannah has taken the time to bring us her insights into this capture; fab tips on working with available light, reflections and composition, getting in close and low, building rapport and trust, patience and more…

Delighted to have the brilliant Nikhol Esteras Roberts on the site today to tell us all about this brilliant capture. In the thirty-fourth of our ‘This is How…’ series, Nikhol shares her great insights into having a connection with her couple (and the benefits that brings), tips on taking time to observe and thus help predict future events, capturing personalities and relationships, composition, and waiting for the moment…
This Is How: ‘Overwhelmed by Gratitude’ by Anji Martin of Potok’s World Photography
For our thirty-third ‘This is How…’ piece, it’s an honour to have the fab US-based TiR member Anji Martin of Potok’s World Photography on the site, taking us behind the scenes of this emotional capture. As well as sharing her before and after edit, Anji also shares some supporting images, as well as great insights into blending into the background in order to capture raw emotion, the practical advantages of shooting as a husband-and-wife team, lens choice, composition, storytelling and more…The particular story of this wedding, and moment, is also incredibly moving. Thanks so much for sharing, Anji!
