I am Marieke Zwartscholten. I have been photographing weddings for over 10 years. As a photojournalist I document the real story of a wedding. I look for beautiful light and original compositions to show all those special emotions, funny interactions and unique moments, that are all about the couple.
I strongly believe in the documentaire approach. Images of those important but also of those small moments will be worth more every year after the wedding. I know, because I have been married since 2004. Our two sons also make me realize how meaningful pictures are.
My previous career, in architecture and education, has led me to the point where I’m now at: teaching moment driven photography to other photographers. I teach an intense workshop, called the Get Real (also an online version now, because of the pandemic), I’m a mentor, last year I organized and hosted the first edition of Doc20, a seminar all about documentary photography and I've had the honor to be a jury member for several photography contests.
