Amy Hodson

Staffordshire & West Midlands | United Kingdom

I’m Amy Hodson; 28, founder of Amy Hodson Photography. I’m a wife to my childhood sweetheart Jack, and a fur mom to our girl, Luna (she’s a Borador!). I’m a part time Nursing Assistant for the NHS and a part-time photographer. I have always had a passion for photography which stems from when I was a young girl, I would take photographs of anything and everyone; from landscapes and flowers to family and friends. Photography had always been something that I had wanted to pursue, however I never quite did believe in myself to go for it and chase my dream, that was until October 2019 when I launched ‘Amy Hodson Photography’, photographing friends and offering free bookings to build up my experience and portfolio.

Shortly after my photography venture in early 2020, COVID-19 hit. I worked throughout the whole of the pandemic as a Nursing Assistant, but I didn’t give up on my dream of becoming a photographer; I was determined to build my brand. Whilst in lockdown it was near impossible to offer services with the restrictions in place so I took this time to practice with self portraits, landscapes and of course… Plenty of pictures of Luna! My photography got me through some of the tougher days throughout the pandemic, it was my escape from the uncertainty that was going on in the world. Taking advantage of my spare time, I completed an online Wedding Photographer Business course. During this time I also became involved in a photography community group where like minded individuals would share their photographs for constructive criticism and advice, I am still part of this group to this day and enjoy communicating with other photographers to ensure that I am capturing images to the best of my ability.

By the time that the restrictions were lifted, I had managed to save enough money to upgrade my equipment to that of a professional level. Not long afterwards I had received my first wedding booking for which I was delighted. I spoke to a fellow photographer that I met in the photography community group who is now a good friend of mine, she very kindly allowed me to shadow her on a few weddings of her own so that I could prepare for my own bookings. I continued to do this alongside my own weddings that I had booked to expand my portfolio and broaden my knowledge. I know just how important these photographs are because I’ve been there on my own wedding day, I feel so privileged to share one of the biggest days of my couples lives; their wedding day which I capture allowing them to relive their special day through my photography again and again - that is such a wonderful feeling. I ensure that I go above and beyond, not wanting to be just ‘Amy, the Photographer’, I’m a helping hand, assisting wherever I can so that the big day runs as smoothly as possible – gathering guests for group photographs, holding the train of the dress, and on occasions I have even helped a few of my brides with their dress in the rest room!

My photography business has gone from strength to strength and I have been awarded ‘West Midlands Wedding Photographer Of The Year’ for 3 years running now which is an amazing accomplishment.
