This Is How: ‘Mirrored Feelings’ by Marnix de Stigter

One of my favourite images of 2018 is this one taken in the old city hall of the beautiful city Leiden in the Netherlands. With only 12 guests this was a very small ceremony for only the parents and direct family members. This couple live in Sydney and decided to fly over and get married in the presence of their closest relatives in the country they had first met and where the groom is originally from.
The first thing I noticed when walking into the room where the ceremony was held, was the glass table with striped lines in front of the couple. Both the left side and the right side from the table provided the opportunity to have the reflection of the couple and their faces without any distracting elements around or sticking from their heads. The left side ended up being my favourite, because of how the lines on the table would frame them.
A few times the couple would look at each other in a beautiful loving way, but it is was only when they held hands tightly that I felt it really made the image strong. With the hands held like this it felt right to actually make their hands the primary focus and have the reflection of the way they looked at one another the secondary focus in the image.
I am really happy how this image came out. Having patience, keeping this position and trusting that the right moment would finally come really paid off.
