8 Years of TiR
8 Years of This is Reportage: A Celebration of Storytelling
Eight years. Eight stories. Endless moments.
In late 2017, This is Reportage launched with a simple idea — to celebrate honesty in wedding photography. No poses, nothing staged; just real moments, beautifully seen.
Eight years later, that idea has grown into something far greater than we could have imagined: a worldwide community of photographers who share a belief in storytelling, connection, and truth. Through thousands of Awards, dozens of Collections, and countless real stories, our members have shown that documentary wedding photography is an art form — one built on instinct, empathy, and timing.
To celebrate this milestone, we’re looking back at one Award from each year — eight images and stories that capture the heart of TiR. From our earliest Collections in 2018 through to 2025, these photographs show how powerful and varied real moments can be: funny, emotional, quiet, chaotic, but always true.
Scroll below to explore the full 8 Years of TiR series. Each article dives into a standout Award from that year, celebrating the photographers and the stories that have shaped our community.
8 Years of This is Reportage: 2025 – Matt Badenoch’s Reportage Award
Bringing our 8 Years of This is Reportage series right up to date, Matt Badenoch (UK) reminds us exactly what documentary wedding photography is all about: emotion, connection, and the quiet power of truth.
8 Years of This is Reportage: 2024 – Isabelle Hattink’s Story Award
Some wedding days are defined by emotion, others by atmosphere — and sometimes, it’s the dress that steals the show. In 2024, Isabelle Hattink (Netherlands) proved that even the most traditional symbol of a wedding can take on a life of its own, with a Story Award that had everyone smiling.
8 Years of This is Reportage: 2023 – Hollie Mateer’s Reportage Award
Some photographers have a rare ability to make you see the familiar in new ways — to reveal layers of design and meaning hidden within everyday life. Hollie Mateer (UK) is one of those photographers. Her black-and-white Reportage Award from 2023 is a perfect example: a striking, clever composition that transforms a wedding scene into something almost surreal.
8 Years of This is Reportage: 2022 – Valter Antunes’ Story Award
Some Story Awards make you laugh, some move you — and a few do both at once. In 2022, Valter Antunes (Portugal) captured a story that did exactly that: a wonderfully observed sequence featuring the bride’s mother, who spent the entire day filming her daughter’s wedding with her trusty video camera.
8 Years of This is Reportage: 2021 – David Scholes’ Story Award
By 2021, This is Reportage had grown into a thriving global community — and one name that defined that year was David Scholes (UK – TiR Profile / website). Winning an astonishing 11 Story Awards across the year, David claimed the first of his three consecutive Storyteller of the Year titles — a feat unmatched to this day.
